Tango & Cheri Monastery
The Tango Monastery is a Buddhist monastery located about 14 kilometer away from Thimphu-the capital of Bhutan. The monastery was established in the 13th century AD by Lama GyalwaLhanampa. The monastery is dedicated to the wrathful Hayagriva form of Avalokiteshvara.
The Cheri Monastery or the Chagri Dorjeden Monastery is a Buddhist monastery located in the northern end of the Thimphu. The monastery is about 15 kilometers away from the city of Thimphu. valley. The monastery can be reached after a short hike from a close by road head and is located close to the famous Tango Monastery. The monastery was established in 1620 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the legendary unifier of Bhutan. The Cheri Monastery was the first on many monasteries that Zhabdrung Namgyal established in Bhutan.
