Sangchen Choekhor
High above the north bank of the Paro Chhu, the Sangchen Choekhor Buddhist Institute commands outstanding views of the valley below. 12km (7 miles) for Paro along a road that runs along the Paro Chhu’s north bank before climbing through a dramatic series of switchbacks, the dramatically sited shudra (Buddhist college) is home to a community or around a hundred monks, who gather here to pore over ancient texts and study Buddhist philosophy. While the buildings will be of interest to Buddhist scholars, most people visit to enjoy the fine valley views with the road access bringing it within reach of travellers unable to make the long climb up to Taktsang Lhakhang.
